In multiplayer Commander, Spreading Plague can function as a game-ending stax piece in mono-black or artifact-based strategies that produce no colored creatures, systematically eliminating every colored creature opponents deploy. The card is narrow but devastating in the right context, making it a priority target for players building controlling black Commander strategies. Invasion was printed in 2000 and the supply from that run is fixed. Spreading Plague has not been widely reprinted, keeping the original Invasion copy as the primary available version.
