Transcendence Price
MARKET NOTE: TRANSCENDENCE
Updated 2026-09-07
Transcendence from Torment is a white enchantment with a unique and self-destructive clause: it causes its controller to lose the game at a life total above 20 rather than at zero or below, creating a high-risk combo piece for decks that manipulate life totals dramatically. The card sees Commander play in builds that intentionally drop their life total below 20 and then cast Transcendence to leverage alternative win conditions or to protect against lifegain decks. Torment was a set from the Odyssey block released in 2002 that skewed heavily toward black, making white cards from that set particularly scarce within the set's design due to the color imbalance. That internal scarcity adds collector interest beyond what the card's unusual design alone would generate. The card has not been reprinted, keeping original Torment copies as the sole source. Demand is niche and Commander-driven, sustained by players who build around the card's specific interaction.
