At the cost of four life instead of mana, or three black mana at full price, it removes any non-black creature without touching the mana pool, which makes it a key piece in Legacy Reanimator, Dredge sideboard plans, and black-based combo decks that need to operate at instant speed under a lock. The value of older commons like this one is directly tied to era print-run scarcity. Mercadian Masques-era commons were not printed in quantities comparable to modern commons, and nearly three decades of attrition have reduced the NM supply considerably. The card has seen reprints, but original Masques copies carry the old card frame aesthetic that collectors of that era prefer. The 7-day and 30-day data show no movement, consistent with a card that holds a stable collector floor supported by eternal format demand rather than speculation.
