MARKET NOTE: DEATHRITE SHAMAN

Updated 2026-09-06

Deathrite Shaman is banned in Modern but remains legal and highly played in Legacy and Vintage, functioning as a one-mana mana source that also controls graveyards and drains opponents over the course of a game. The Secret Lair Countdown Kit is a limited-distribution product that placed this card in front of a relatively small buyer pool, constraining secondary supply relative to demand from Legacy players seeking premium versions. Price over the past quarter has trended upward with modest continuation in the past thirty days, consistent with a card whose competitive relevance is stable in eternal formats and whose supply does not get replenished through standard booster distribution. Legacy format health is the primary variable: any shift toward graveyard-centric strategies that Deathrite punishes would accelerate demand, while a Legacy ban announcement would represent a significant negative catalyst. The collectible tier here is entirely Legacy and Vintage player-driven.
